All India Mahila Congress
This page about All India Mahila Congress.
In 1983 Smt. Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India announced Women wing of All India Mahila Congress Committee as Frontal Organisation and named All India Mahila Congress.
Mahila Congress is the women’s wing of the Indian National Congress party and each state is represented by the Pradesh Mahila Congress.
Today, the Law grants equal rights and status to women in the social, cultural, economic and political fields. But inspite of all these formal rights, Indian women are still to achieve substantive equality within areas of economic independence, occupational status, proportionate administrative and political power. But what was lacking was the will on her part to claim equality with the men. It was the world of disbelieve and ignorance which always kept her as the shadow of her man. As such, the first step taken by the Congress party towards upgradation of the women, to educate her and make her conscious of her position and the status, the All India Mahila Congress was created. This organization works religiously to bring all the necessary changes in the society for the betterment and upliftment of the half of the population of India, the women.
Mahila congress is a premier organization dedicated to welfare of women. Though each human being is different but there are certain common values and interests which make a strong bond among us and inspire us to help each other. All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) is the largest democratic and secular women’s organization in the world that represents aspirations of millions of women. Mahila Congress, since its formation has been the torch bearer of women activism and motivated millions of women. We are already in the forefront to protect the rights and interests of women, irrespective of caste and creed, religion and the social status. Mahila Congress has been embarked on revolutionary journey which will bring women leaders from the grassroot. The doors of Mahila Congress are open to everyone and the process to nominate, elect and to groom women leaders is on. Mahila Congress at present has a million plus members across the country.
