UPDATE ON THE SYRIAN REFUGEES FUNDRAISER Alhamdulillah, truly all praise is due to Allah alone for all His blessings. The fundraiser that I launched less than two days ago exceeded all of our exceptions - ولا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله. Our goal was 50k, but in less than 48 hours we have tripled that goal and it looks like we may even exceed a quarter of a million, inshAllah. Keep giving, for the need is way beyond a figure that we can raise. I contacted our team on the ground and they were so elated they purchased packs even before we could wire the funds to them, and began distributing in the camps yesterday. The two orphans, Muhammad and Lara, received the news on behalf of the entire camp and have a message for us all! Please excuse Lara's few words...she is camera shy, but she did share some really sweet words for all of you at the end of the video 😊 PS. Many have reached out asking if they can adopt these siblings. I'm afraid that for Westerners, the adoption process for Syrians is almost impossible due to government restrictions; nonetheless this is not a question that either myself or READ can help you out with. You will have to try via the official mechanisms of your own country. If you do obtain official approval, at that stage we can put you in touch with the appropriate agencies on the ground who can connect you with Syrian orphans. I would like to thank all of you who donated, or shared this appeal, or made dua for this project. May Allah give us more, so that we can continue to give more, and may He alleviate the situation of the Syrians and all those who suffer around the world. The original columns of the city of Jerusalem that date back to the time of the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam). It is almost certain that Abu Sufyan, when he visited Jerusalem and was quizzed by Heraclius (as reported in the famous lengthy Hadith in al-Bukharī), would have walked through this very passageway on his way to the Royal Palace.2 months ago
The handwritten copy of the Quran, written from memory, by Shaykh Abdullah Qadi of Indonesia (aka ‘Tuan Guru’) while he was enslaved by the Dutch as a political prisoner in South African in the 1790s. Tuan Guru is the founder of the first mosque and madrassah in Cape Town. Local scholars have told me that they have examined the entire Quran and found only minor errors. Can you imagine any other tradition in which a slave-scholar is able to replicate his holy book completely from memory? And just marvel at the sheer beauty of the calligraphy!!6 months ago
Live from the cell on Robben Island where Nelson Mandela spent almost two decades of his 27 year imprisonment. But did you know how this prison is linked to Muslims and how Nelson Mandela himself was inspired by the dedication of some Muslims? I was blessed today to be addressed directly by the South African Minister of Higher Education, the honourable Naledi Pandor. A very eloquent address that followed my speech and summarized it. Sr Naledi was elected to Congress into Nelson Mandela’s party while he was in power. And Alhamdullilah she is also a convert to Islam. Only in South Africa!!6 months ago
I’m visiting the beautiful city of Cape Town, South Africa. Over breakfast with some of the volunteers, we were blessed with the presence of ‘the Abdul Basit of South Africa’, Qari Abdurahmaan Sadien. What an amazing voice! And what a testament to the Muslims of this land who have produced many scholars and reciters for many centuries! In a future video I plan to summarize some key features of the history of Islam in these regions.6 months ago
